The UK has hit its lowest score ever of 70 out of 100.
Plummeting 13 places in just 10 years, falling from 7th place in 2015 to 20th place in 2025/26.
Dropped 12 points since its peak score of 82 in 2017.
The most significant drop in Western Europe, leaving it behind peers like Estonia and Ireland.
According to Transparency International UK, the decline is driven by specific systemic failures:
Big Money in Politics: The 2024 general election saw record-high spending, leading to a heavy reliance on wealthy donors and mega-donors who pour millions into party coffers.
Cash-for-Access Scandals: Reports of lobbyists and donors soliciting or receiving privileged political access in exchange for cash or donations.
Questionable Appointments: Allegations that major political donors have received government appointments without following due process or proper vetting.
The Mandelson-Epstein Controversy: Ongoing investigations into
Peter Mandelson for misconduct in public office regarding his close ties to Jeffrey Epstein and the leaking of sensitive information.
Cronyism: Transparency International cites the ennoblement of party donors and the revolving door between public and private sectors as key drivers of public distrust.

“Imagination has a door, yeah
That your mind wants to explore (Imagination)
You realize it only when
You execute views from within, oh
(Make your wish and it will be)
Your mind paints a picture for you to see, yeah
(Suddenly it all seems real)
Your mind's gonna give to you just what you feel
You can put away your feelings
Of what you wanna be
Once you try in fact to find it
It's real inside me
(Imagination) Ooohooohooo (Takes you high, high, high)…”
“Sometimes my mind's just like a door
It's open night and day always open to suggestion
Don't want to throw a good idea away
Sometimes my mind's just like a door it's closed
So no one can get in
Too afraid to leave it open afraid a stranger might come in
Times sometimes my mind mind mind, its just like a door
Times sometimes my mind mind mind, its just like a door
It's made out of the thickest wood
And you may try your best to kick it down
But that won't do you any good
Just like a door
And I lose the key, I find myself locked outside
Trying to break back in so desperately…”
“Some doors were always open
And some were always closed
But now they've started changing them
And that's just the way it goes
I think that someone stole my ideals
Cause I can't find them anywhere
But then I look at you and I remember
Maybe love is how we came this far
We can always try for something better
If love's a part of everything we are…”
